Please make sure to enter the following 5 points when making an entry.

The title of the e-mail should be “Application for JBAN Convention 2020” .
Information to be included is as follows:

  • *The deadline for entry is Sunday, April 5th. However, due to the size of the exhibition space, we suggest you apply early.Application for entry will be accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis.
  • In case if you do not receive any reply from us within 3 days after your submission, please contact us.
  • After we receive your e-mail, we will reply with a material order sheet and cost form from Monday March 23th.
    Your material order sheet and design image must be sent to us by Sunday April 13th to complete your registration.
    You will be deducated when they are overdue.

  1. Method of Judgment
    The winning works will be decided through totaling the contest votes.
  2. Judges
    Votes of the following judges will be totaled in the ratio of 10 : 5 : 1.
    (Seminar lecturers : convention participants : general spectators)
  • *For the Live Twist, only the seminar lecturers will have a vote.  
    The review criteria, rules, as well as interpretation and application of votes will be determined according to the discretion of the JBAN staff only.
    The judges will be selected by the JBAN staff and will remain anonymous.
    The JBAN staff will strive to ensure that the competition is fair, balanced and without prejudice.

CAUTION

  1. Display period
    Please produce works in such a way that they can be maintained during the display period until May 13 (Wednesday).
  2. Display area
    The organizing committee will designate the works display area.
  3. Separation of wastes
    Since we are in the process of acquiring ISO 14001, we request your cooperation in separation of trash generated during your production and meal.

    Thanks to the cooperation of the sponsors, we have prepared a selection of wonderful gifts to present to the award-winning teams in each section.
  2. Party seating
    Priority seats will be reserved for contestants only.

Large Sculupture

The most notable category in contest events. It will be displayed at the 1st floor exhibition hall. Let many visitors get excited!

Contest works must be made at the venue. Production Time: 9 hours

Work Size No larger than W4000×D4000×H Unspecified(Less than 9000mm)
Conditions 180 °design (grid not allowed). Standing type. Use of helium gas is prohibited.

Production time 9 hours
  • Balloons are not to be inflated or created prior to the contest.
  • Also, molding and bending shall not be done before the contest. Cutting, coating and marking of paper patterns and pipes can be done prior to the contest.
  • Maintenance to your work is prohibited.
  • Electric power available during the exhibition.

Foil Sculupture

This is the first contest section.
It is "Hanging type". Why do not you challenge a new work?

Contest works must be made at the venue. Production Time: 5 hours
Theme Musuem

Work Size W2000 x D2000 x H2000mm
Conditions 360 °design./Hanging type/Use of fresh helium gas is prohibited.
Maintenance Maintenance to your work is prohibited.

  • Please use a balloon made of foil material as the main.
  • Use of latex balloons as decoration is prohibited.
  • Artificial flower and paper material accessories can be used.
  • Pre-framework is not available.
  • Use of helium gas is permitted.(Please tell us your preference in advance)
  • Use of electric power is prohibited during display.

Balloon Museum

This is the first contest section. Let's create a museum space by arranging the objects that are displayed on the museum!

Contest works must be made at the venue. Production Time: 4 hours

Balloon Fashion

Let's surprise those who are new to balloon dresses and costumes.
There is also a fashion show in front of general guest.

Conditions 360 °design. Please bring your own mannequins and prepare model by yourself. It can be moved.

  • The number of production people is up to two. It will be one representative and one assistant.
  • Model: 1 person
  • Balloon Dress or Costume work must be wearable on a mannequin or torso.
  • It is indispensable that the work be able to exhibit during the period.
  • Please prepare your model and torso. Please consult with contestants from overseas.
  • Only Qualatex balloons may be used in Fashion competitions.
  • You are not permitted to work on your balloons and any preparation in any way before the contest.
  • Use of helium gas-filled balloon is prohibited.
  • Use of spray is prohibited.
  • In addition to the exhibition, we are also planning a fashion show at general events.

Helium Bouquet

A combination of a delicate arrangement and a fluffy balloon. Let's make a gift that will please even if you are given a present!

Live Performance

Show! Enjoy! Surprise! Let's excite the venue with a balloon performance!

Contest works must be made at the venue on live.Production Time: 4 min.

Number of Entries 6 contestants
Team Size 1 person or 1 team
Conditions Compile a show that must include the balloon making process.
Use of tools other than balloons is prohibited. There is no preliminary qualifying.
No materials will be provided. Each contestant must prepare their own acoustics.
Clean-up and disposal Please take it home as soon as the contest display is over.

Contest Rules and Cautions

Facility usage notes

  1. During production, be sure to affix your contest participant certification sticker in a visible place on your clothing, etc.
  2. During production, entry of people other than contest personnel will be prohibited.
  3. Please use designated restroom. If you smoke, please smoke in the designated smoking area.
  4. We request your cooperation in separation of trash generated during your production and meal.
  5. Exhibits of works by students will be displayed. We request your understanding in advance.
  6. Contest participants can reserve party seats on a priority basis.
  7. Since production will be conducted in a limited space, we ask that you share the common materials and work space when producing works.
  • To contestants: You are free to take breaks as you please.。
    Also, please note that you are prohibited from ordering meal deliveries, etc. for lunch.

Cautions in Production

  • Due to the size of the contest site, oversized works and extension of work time will not be permitted under any circumstances.
  • Works that do not follow the pre-production rules in each competition will have points deducted or will be disqualified.
    In the Large sculupture section and fashion section, it is not permitted to make things or inflate balloons in advance.

    Please select materials upon first referring to Emily's Balloon Catalog in advance.

  • The floor may get damaged due to direct contact with aluminum rods, base stand, and gas cylinder, please conduct curing before placing objects.
  • Use of any type of sprays including color spray, hair spray, etc. is prohibited.
    Moreover, if you have concerns about the above matters, etc. in other processing work and used materials, the staff members will give instructions concerning whether use is permitted and so on.
  • If you stain the floor, walls or venue, you may be invoiced for cleaning or repair costs at a later date. Thank you for your understanding.
  • All categories ⇒ Use of fresh flowers is prohibited.
    In the Large sculupture section and fashion section, Balloon Musuem section, Balloon Figure ⇒ Use of helium gas is prohibited.
  • If using helium gas in any other section, please take care to ensure that objects do not fly away.
    If objects do fly away, points will be deducted.
  • Power sources up to 20A can be used for work.
    When work is finished, be sure to turn off power sources for inflators, etc. and gas main valves. 。
  • Please produce works so that they can be held over the display period until May 13(Wednesday).
  • Any supplied materials that are left over in production needs to be returned. Please follow the instructions of staff following production.
  • We prohibit the production and use of works and materials that require copyright such as domestic and foreign characters, anime, entertainers and registered trademarks.

Concerning submitted objects

Please submit original designs, materials applications, work titles, cost forms etc. by the deadline.  
Please understand that submissions after the deadline will not be accepted.
If submissions are not made, you may be subject to points deduction or refused participation.

Maintenance

  • No maintenance at all will be permitted during the exhibition period.In other cases, contestants will be disqualified or have points deducted.
  • JBAN will not be liable for any damages arising in the competition.
    We ask that you refrain from using valuable or expensive items in works.   
  • When the JBAN secretariat judges that the safety during exhibition may be impaired, we may ask you to take appropriate measures.

Cleaning-up and disposal of your works after contest

  • Please perform your own clean-up work between PM 14:00-16:00 on May 13th.
  • If you wish to take your works home, please make your own arrangements. Please make your own arrangements for cardboard boxes.
  • The JBAN reserves the right to display and removal of each entry at its discretion. All contestants must be responsible for disposal after contests.

Attending award-giving ceremony in final party

Representatives of each team are asked to apply for and attend the final party in which the award-giving ceremony will be held.They must register for the final party separately.

In closing

Please conduct work with ample care to ensure that there are no injuries.
Be sure to intake ample liquid and rest during production.
If you are unclear on any points, please ask a staff member.
